2020-21 School Year In Review

The June 20th Dana Update represents the last weekly communication to parents, staff, and students. We would like to use this as an opportunity to express our gratitude for making the 2020-21 school year a success despite the challenges we faced. You demonstrated how you are flexible, innovative, strong, vulnerable, and grateful. These attributes helped you navigate the uncertain times. While few of us would wish to repeat these events, we can appreciate how this year helped us practice the skills we will need as we face adversity in the future.

Please take time during the summer to connect with family, friends, and loved ones. Thank you again for your commitment to our students.

What Can I Do To Prepare For Next Year?

Incoming parents frequently ask “What can I do to prepare my student for next year?” We recommend parents follow these tips over the summer break;

  •  Enhance your love of reading - Reading is a skill that strengthens the mind, improves vocabulary, and promotes the value of intellect. It is important for teachers, parents, and other adults to model the love of reading. Reading doesn’t have to be a burden. Click this link to learn more.
  •  Support Social Emotional Well Being - Socio Emotional skills are the skills we rely upon to help us cope with everyday emotions, stress, relationships. The more we have a chance to practice these skills, the more comfortable, confident and competent we become to use them in different situations. Click this link to learn how you can help develop healthy socio emotional habits with your child.
  •  Promote Student Independence - Allow children to make choices. Support growth and new challenges by scaffolding and practicing new skills. Let children solve problems on their own. Every child encounters failure at some point so let children struggle (safely). At the end of the day your child should be tired….not you! Click here for more information.
