2022 FODAC Jog-A-Thon Was A Success!

Thank you to everyone that joined us in supporting our Dana Jogathon this year!  We raised thousands of dollars that will go directly toward supporting Dana & Correia Middle schools and we could not do it without your support. Students and staff enjoyed the day together participating in various fun activities while raising money for our Friends of Dana and Correia Foundation.

Staff Appreciation Week May 2nd - 6th

Staff Appreciation Week is May 2nd - 6th. This is a week to celebrate our fabulous teachers, education specialists, office staff, counselors, and support staff members.. We are encouraging students and parents to bring small tokens of appreciation this week to thank Dana educators for their hard work and dedication to our Mariners!

 

Turn In Outstanding Jogathon Checks, Donations, and Lap Trackers May 2nd

If there are any outstanding checks or cash donations, we would need them turned in by Monday. Students should turn their items into their ELA teacher. Please return your lap tracker to the main office.

 

PLCSF Meeting May 2nd

Please join us for our last Foundation meeting of the school year. We will be welcoming Jessie Du Pre and Anna Pacheco, school counselors from the Office of Children and Youth in Transition, as well as Nakeya Gilmore, the Military School Liaison Officer for the Point Loma cluster for a presentation around supporting military connected youth through multiple transitions. We are also looking for members that would like to serve on the Board. 

 

5th Grade CAASPP Science Testing Tuesday, May 3rd

As a reminder, 5th grade science testing will occur next Tuesday. Please support your child in brining their charged computer, charger, and earbuds to school. Please ensure your child also arrives to school on-time. Students who arrive more than 1-2 minutes late to school will not be admitted to the testing room and will be required to complete a make-up assessment. Questions? Principal Coffee May 5th

Join us via zoom for our May Principal's Coffee to engage in dialog about the work taking place at Dana. This event takes place from 9 to 9:30 AM on Thursday, May 5th. Use this zoom link: https://sandiegounified.zoom.us/j/4813659415

Every other month Principal Irwin and Vice Principal Perkins meet informally with parents who want to chat about events, share comments, and ask questions related to Dana Middle School. The meetings follow an informal format where parents have an opportunity to obtain accurate information about questions and concerns. Click for more information.

 

School Tour May 5th

New students and parents are invited to participate in an in-person school tour. Meet with Principal Irwin and other staff members during a Q/A session. Explore the campus and tour the library and classrooms. Dana Middle School conducts school tours on the first Thursday of the month. Our afternoon tour is held from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. March FoDaC Meeting on May 10th @ Correia Middle Library

Join us for the May meeting of the Friends of Dana and Correia Middle School Foundation. This in-person meeting will occur on 5/10 at 6:00 PM in the Correia Middle library. Click this link for more information, including a zoom link.

 

Dana Math Night For Parents May 11th

This in-person event scheduled for Wednesday, May 11th at 6:00 PM in the Dana library will give parents an opportunity to learn how to interpret their child’s DEMI math score. Parents will:

  •  Learn about DEMI math assessment administered twice a year
  •  Explore problems students are asked to solve
  • Gain an understanding of their child's math ability
  • Learn how they can support their child’s mathematical skills

We will provide your child's most recent DEMI scores and discuss best practices for supporting mathematics. Parents MUST pre-register for this event. Click this link to pre-register prior to May 6th. A digital version of this presentation will be made available to parents who cannot attend this in-person event at a later date.

 

ELAC Parents Wanted

We are actively recruiting parent representatives to serve on our English Language Learner Advisory Committee. Parents must have a child identified as an English Learner. The English Language Learner Advisory Committee makes recommendations on behalf of the English Language Learner student population at Dana. The committee meets every other month at a time that works for the committee members. Please reach out to Michelle Perkins ([email protected]) if you are interested in joining. We need a minimum of one parent to meet our legal requirements.

 

Spring Dance May 12th - Eligibility Requirements

We are excited to announce an upcoming series of in-person reward activities for students:

  •  May 12th - 12:30 - 2:00 - Spring Dance in the Center Courtyard
  •  May 19th - Spring Musical in the Jackson Theater
  • May 31st - BMX assembly
  • June 14th - 6th Grade Field Day

These activities are put in place to reward students for making positive choices throughout the school year. Reward activity eligibility requirements can be found in the student planner or by clicking this link.

 

6th Grade Student Tour Correia May 13th

The Correia 6th Grade Field Trip is scheduled for Friday, May 13. The bus will depart Dana at 9:00 and arrive at Correia at 9:15. We will depart Correia at 11:15 and arrive at Dana at 11:30. Parents are welcome to participate in this tour. Principal McDade will meet with 6th grade parents in the Correia Library. Parents choosing to do so must provide their own transportation to Correia Middle.

 

Earth Day Event For Dana Students May 18th and 25th

Earth Day is a day set aside to recognize the importance of caring for and keeping our Earth clean. On May 18th and 25th from 2:45-5:00 pm, Dana and Correia will be at the Famosa Slough clearing paths and removing non-native plants. If you choose to participate you will earn 3 hours of community service. Please complete this form if you are interested in participating. More information to come! Glad we can put on an event that will bring our 2 schools together.

FODAC Fundraiser @ Pizza Port - May 19

1956 Bacon St. - Visit Pizza Port on Thursday, May 19, between 5-8 pm, and enjoy pizza and salad with friends. Guests must present a printed flyer when placing their order or upon pick-up. Pizza Port will donate a portion of all sales directly back to the schools. Thank you for your support.

 

Incoming Parent Breakfast May 25th

Come have fun at our informal in-person breakfast! Principal Irwin, Vice Principal Perkins, and Friends of Dana and Correia (FODAC) Directors will share all of the exciting ways Dana parents are involved with their child’s experience at the middle level. In Person Open House May 25th

Our In Person Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, May 25th from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. Parents and students may visit classrooms, check out projects, and chat with teachers during our free-flowing Spring event. Students will be performing in the center courtyard. Visit the student art gallery found on campus. An informational flyer will be distributed shortly. Join us for a fun Open House and show your support for Dana Middle School.

 

4th Grade Student Tour Slide Deck Available

We would like to thank the 4th grade students and parents from Cabrillo, Dewey, Loma Portal, Ocean Beach, Silver Gate, and Sunset View Elementary schools for visiting our campus during the week of April 25th and 29th. We are looking forward to seeing you during our student orientation in August. More information is coming soon.
