Wear Green on Fridays!

Friday, September 17th will be our first Dana Spirit Day. Wear a green shirt (our school color), or Dana Gear and receive a raffle ticket for a free Kona Ice. See Mr. Irwin and Mrs. Perkins at lunch for details! NOTE: ALL Fridays are Dana Spirit Days!

Curriculum Night Sept. 22nd Event Schedule

Curriculum Night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 22nd from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. This online synchronous event provides parents with an opportunity to participate in live zoom meetings with the Dana Administration and classroom teachers. View our informational flyer for parents to explore the event schedule and find zoom links.

IMPORTANT: This event was originally scheduled for Thursday, September 16th but was changed to Wednesday, September 22nd to avoid a calendar conflict with Yom Kippur. We apologize for any confusion the date change may have caused.

Check out the Dana Robotics Team/Lego Club!

What:  The Dana Robotics Team/Lego Club operates under the Friends of Dana and Correia (FODAC) Association as an after-school enrichment club.

When and where: Team practices/meetings will likely be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm in Room 201 at Dana.

How much?: Time? Practices will be twice a week from September to February, for two hours each session. Competitions will be held on one Saturday in November (locally) and one in February (at Legoland). Cost?  $100 per child for the season; need-based scholarships are available.

Parent participation required?:  Yes! Though the journey of technical discovery belongs to the students, we need one parent per child to fulfill vital roles for team success. All adults must complete a SDUSD volunteer application and have a current TB test on file to be able to come on campus.

Who do I contact?  Send an email to Candace Groesbeck at [email protected]. We will be having an informational meeting via Zoom next Tuesday, Sept. 14th at 7 pm.  You must attend the meeting for your child to join Dana Robotics.  For more info about FIRST Lego League and this year's robot challenge, see

Call Ahead When Picking Up Student Early

Parents frequently are in a rush when they arrive on campus to pick up their child early from school. It will take time for your child to make their way down from the classroom. We encourage parents to plan accordingly OR call ahead if they are picking up their child. Call Mrs. Mikail at 858-988-2900 x3021. NOTE: Parents picking up their child during the middle of lunch recess can expect a delay as we locate their child on the playground.

Keep Hydrated & Bring Your Water Bottle

As temperatures rise, we are discovering some students are coming to school without a water bottle. 50% of our water fountains have been converted to “bottle filling stations”. Remind your child to bring a water bottle with them to school each day.

Similar Size Schools in SDUSD Receive 14x More Funding Than Dana...Why?

The answer is related to Title 1 rankings. As you may already know, Free and Reduced Price Meal (FRPM) status is used to designate Title I rankings within the district. Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) data collection affects Title I Eligibility/Ranking, and the higher the collection rate, the more funding individual school sites will receive.

Please help Dana Middle! The collection of LCFF data has moved to an electronic collection process. Parents can visit the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the electronic LCFF Form. We are hopeful this process will allow families to provide the information needed to properly fund Dana Middle in a timely and more efficient manner.

For Parents: The data you enter will not affect your child receiving free meals at this school as all children will have free access to meals this school year. The LCFF online form is available on the Parent Portal, and NOT on the student’s portal.
